Last week I was reading the Daily Eastern News when I cam across a story about the new upcoming laws regarding cigarette butts. If you throw a cigarette butt on the ground, you will receive a Class B misdemeanor and a fine. Your second offense is a Class A misdemeanor and an even larger fine. The third offense results in a felony, up to a year in jail and a $25,000 fine. I am a huge nature lover, but is this seriously the steps our country is taken to preserve the environment? There are no laws trying to assist with the preservation of our ozone layer and I would think that would be far more important than cigarette butts on the ground. Or the fact that we are deforesting our planet each and everyday. America needs to concentrate more on the important aspects of protecting our planet and not worry so much about cigarette butts on the ground.
