The American Music Award Nominees Are…

The award season is back. The AMA’s and Grammy’s are around the corner and with such a great hip hop and R&B year it will be interesting to see who has been nominated.

Set to air November 24, the AMA’s released their nominees in a press release this morning. And not surprisingly, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis have the highest number of nominations this year. The rap duo has had an amazing year especially with their hit single “Thrift Shop”. They are nominated for 6 awards,

Justin Timberlake is tied for second place with 5 nominations. This R&B singer has managed to get two number one albums in one year with the “20/20 Experience” parts 1 and 2.

Rihanna and Robin Thicke are tied with 4 nominations. The Barbadian singer has had a good year in music when she release her album “Unapologetic”. Even though the album released close to a year ago, the singer is still on the charts and even recently released a video for her hit song “Pour It Up”. Rihanna is nominated for Favorite Female (Soul/R&B) going up against “Body Party” singer Ciara and Alicia Keys whos managed to create new music and direct a new film “The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete”.


Mr. Thicke has also been solid this year with his album “Blurred Lines” that released in late July. Hit song off the singer’s album “Blurred Lines” has been number one for 16 weeks. Thicke is nominated for Favorite Male Artist(soul/R&B). He is going up against Timberlake and Miguel who also had a great year musically.


Jay Z who has 3 nominations, 1 being for the Great Gatsby soundtrack which is nominated for Best Soundtrack. Jay Z was one of the producers of the soundtrack. Other nominees include Lil Wayne and Kendrick Lamar.
