A new species of fish was located in the central Amazon of Brazil not long ago. For over 150 years, people from this region believed that there was only one type of Arapaima, but recently a new species has been revealed. Arapaima are giant fish that live in fresh water. They are alsoconsidered to be an important commercial fish for this region.
Scientists are worried that this discovery may lead to added ecological problems if the fish are removed from their native locations without first learning more about the unknown species. However, other scientists believe that these new fish need to have a conservation assessment performed in order to determine whether or not they can sustain movement.
