After being dealt to the Winnipeg Jets earlier this year, Michael Frolik had a hero’s homecoming in his first game back at the Mad House on Madison.
The Hawks honored Frolik, who was instrumental in their Stanley Cup run, with a video tribute and standing ovation during a break in the first period. However, they did not let the emotion of the night stop them.
The Hawks scored three goals to take a 3-0 lead going into the third period, including one on a breakaway from rookie Brandon Pirri, assisted by Ben Smith, both young players fighting for playing time.
With 6:22 left and the game well in hand, things got a little rowdy as big man Brandon Bollig put Adam Pardy of the Jets through the glass at the Winnipeg end of the ice with a bone crushing hit.
This was the Hawks second win over the jets in 5 days after a 5-1 victory on Saturday in Winnipeg.
