Fern Mallis, co-founder of New York Fashion Week, isn’t happy about the current state of the event. Mostly, she doesn’t like the fact that bloggers get better seating than the industry buyers. The week did start for the buyers; to put the focus on American fashion, and sell it to distributors. But at the end of the day, the bloggers give extra eyes to the clothes and garner internet attention. Then, distributors check what things do well on the internet and respond to that demand. So the buyers have a new tool to gauge what to buy, as opposed to seeing it and making a purchase order on the spot.
It’ll be interesting to see how this one plays out for sure. Along with the street style debate about New York Fashion Week, the next event will be a newsmaker.
