Three years ago, Cole Swindell was selling merchandise for country music superstar Luke Bryan. Today, he is opening for Bryan on his “That’s My Kind of Night Tour” this spring, summer, and fall.
Swindell, who is from the small town of Bronwood, Ga., release his self-titled, debut album on Feb. 18. The first single off this album, “Chillin It,” currently sits at no. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Song chart, and no. 28 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The single has sold roughly 800,000 copies, making it the highest-selling debut single of a solo male country artist in 2013.
In an interview with Fox News, Swindell said he learned a lot from Bryan, who is now a close friend of his. He had no idea that his first job in Nashville as Bryan’s merchandise salesman would lead him to the where he is in his career today.
In addition to being a performer, Swindell is also a songwriter, and has written numerous songs for Bryan, along with the up and coming duo Florida-Georgia Line, Thomas Rhett and American Idol winner Scotty McCreery.Things have come full circle for Swindell. Clubs and arenas where he once watched legendary country performers like Bryan and Kenny Chesney are now the backdrop for his own performances.
