Traveling sans companions has become more and more popular among travelers, especially women. When The Huffington Post’s article “The World’s Best Destinations for Solo Travel” named Paris as one of the places most visited by single travelers, it made the City of Love into the City of Love Yourself. The Post claimed solo travel offers individuals “a way to learn about oneself… and discover the freedom of exploring a place on their own terms.” Accompanied by Bali, Bangkok and Vancouver, Paris is not the only city feeling the love. A poll by travelgaurd.com found that 59 percent of travel agents said more of their customers are traveling on their own than they had in 2003. The number of women traveling without a partner has also increased as women are becoming more financially independent than in the past.
