History of Running

Maybe it’s just me, but because I’ve become so invested in running and exercise, I am curious as to how running came about in the world.

Supposedly, running evolved over 4.5 million years ago from an ape-like ancestor of humans who walked up right for the first time on 2 legs. Competitive running then grew out of religious festivals in various areas such as Greece, Egypt, Asia, and Africa. The earliest records of competitive running dates back to 1829 BC to the Tailteann Games, which was an Irish sporting festival.

Running started out as a competitive sport, but now people have changed it into a therapy session with themselves. It is something people do to feel better about themselves, about life, and what their purpose in life is. I truly believe that running is much more than putting one foot in front of the other.
