Drew Tewksbury

Overall Influence:

Drew Tewksbury is a multimedia journalist and I picked him to do my multimedia project. Tewksbury is a Los Angeles based journalist. He works with mediums such as photography, editing, radio and documentary producing. He is a professor at the University of Southern California School of Communication and Journalism. He is the managing editor and producer for KCET-TV’s art bound, and he assigns and edits stories for more than 50 contributors. Also, he produces video segments for a monthly show on KCET public media. The reason that I picked this journalist for my project is because he is not only a multimedia worker he does so much more for his company. His work makes you want to read more every time you start a story. He has a very unique way of starting every story making you feel like you are at the event or place he is talking about when he starts. Just from the first sentence of his writing you can tell that he is a very interesting and influential writer.

I think that he is a great teacher too, I can tell that he knows what he is doing and it shows through his writing. I think that it’s cool that he has work to show his students and there is so much personality in his writing. He has a lot of experience also; he worked for LA weekly and NPR. I think that you can tell when he is producing for radio that he once worked for NPR. People that work at NPR know so much about journalism and they do so well at their jobs. He also has worked at multiple magazines, which I find really cool. I think that magazines are the feature and fun writing of journalism and it gives you a chance to figure out what type of writer you are. I also like that he went from multiple mediums throughout his life, he didn’t just stick to one and keep moving up with that. He started with one and then moved to another company and did another type of medium. It is almost like you have different stages throughout your life, one year you want to be a producer, then you want to be a radio broadcaster.

I think that is a way for you to never get bored or sick of what you are doing with your career. I think that he knows so much about journalism because he jumped around but maybe he didn’t get really good at one. He focused on being good at so many and he could have been the best at one. In almost all of his pieces he has a really cool visual to go along with it. The online things that he did for LA are really cool because of the links and different video and picture elements really make the page readable and really interesting. I think that the way that he does everything is really interesting and really effective. A lot of people like his work and there is a reason that he has been to all these places and work and he keeps moving up. I think that he will continue to move up and become better and better.

Here are my ten examples of Tewksbury’s work:

I really like this piece because of how the layout looks of the flyer, the illustration and the way the text is put together is really cool and really easy to read. I like how it is basically just question and answer and how he picked out the interesting things that are in the interview. I think that it is a really cool idea too.

I think it is awesome that Drew not only writes articles, produces radio broadcast, but he also helps new bands make videos and makes interviews for them to be played. I think that this piece is awesome because it is different then anything else that most people do. It is something that is very present in this generation and very technical.

9. The Top 10 Bands

In this post online he uses so many visuals and links. They make the page interactive and it is something that someone wants to read and listen to. Putting music on the page brings all different people to the site which then brings more viewers. I think that the background of the page and the font are really cool too. It is really easy to read and it is something that would catch someones eyes.
